Spring at our house

Unbelievable how time flies! I've been busy with my little sewing business and the rest of life, in general. It's been a lovely Spring with such mild weather....and lots going on around our yard this year (hopefully!)

Here's what my sewing room looks like these days:

It's a constant battle of organize, reorganize and organize again! But, it's tons of fun and keeps my days interesting as I meet new customers on the fabulous World Wide Web! :)

We finally had a day of SNOW on February 24, 2012:

This is the view looking out the 2nd story bathroom on to our garage and back yard.

I had tons of fun with my broom in March:

The way the planets were aligned for a few weeks allowed for a magnetic pull that metal handled objects stood up on end. If your broom had a wooden handle, it did not work!

..........

Morning Sun did a great job on St. Patty's Day! The weather was LOVELY for our parade!

..........

On April 12th, my dad took down the ugly pine tree in our front yard:

 From this.....
To this in a matter of minutes! Dad and Collin had it all picked up within the day!

..........

For weeks, Dave worked diligently to start most of our garden from seeds. Here they are about to get planted outside!

........

Towards the end of April, I spent a few days with the Mickey's:

In the first part of May, my dryer was broke and all apart while we waited on new parts to arrive. It totally threw off my "flow" with sewing, so I took the time to create a new wall grouping for my home:

Remember out little oak tree that was planted last Fall? It's getting bigger!

It's now Memorial Day weekend, 95 degrees outside, the garden is planted and growing each day. Let Summer begin!

January at our home

Dave has spent most of the month working on this 1000 piece puzzle. Now, I love puzzles, but this one is a wold scene in snow. Mostly gray tones. Insane, in my opinion! 73 pieces to go, he declared today! :)

________

Several months ago, my mom asked me to keep her pink geranium plant in my upstairs (tons of sunshine up there) over winter. I'm delighted to report it is blooming like crazy! :) I may have to get one for myself, just to see lovely colors like this all winter long!

We've taken in a few nephew basketball games.....

And one of my favorite plants got a new pot. It desperately needed it!

And, Dad celebrated his 71st birthday, receiving a Kindle, which he is very excited about! :)

Welcome to February!

I did it!!! {and great food pictures}

It sure has been a while since I sat down at the computer with the purpose of blogging. What has taken up my time, you say? I opened up an Etsy store about 10 days ago, and started a Facebook business page too!!! :) I'm so excited for my new adventure!

You can find me at either site by looking up Emmy Sew Happy (Emmy*Sew*Happy on FB).
I've always loved photography, especially newborn photography, but it just doesn't seem my season right now to start down on that career path. Maybe the future holds that? But for now, I'm enjoying making newborn hats and headbands for other photographers to use in their wonderful photos. Soon, I'll have some links on my page of my items being used in photos. :) I'm also making some other things I love....bags and scarves. Only time will tell how things go for me and this endeavor.

After Christmas, in keeping with the theme of a picture a day for December, the only thing I found most interesting to take photos of was food. Seems to fit right along well with me! :)

You know you have a good fermented salsa, when it rises right out of the jar at first opening. YUM!

Dave's Christmas Cake, as he calls it. Fruit Cake to those of us in America. He made it at the end of September and has been marinating it about every 3 weeks since. With Bourbon. It's best with a slice of this cheese on top. :)

Dave made these chocolate chip crumpets on New Year's Eve day.....

One of the things Christmas brought me was this awesome red leather recipe card holder. I've been trying to figure out how to organize my recipes, and this seemed to fit me the best. Now the chore of copying all my favorites from their scrap pieces of paper to actual recipe cards. Good times!

Unbelievable that it's nearly smack-dab-in-the-middle of January already!!!!

He is with us!!!

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord....Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

The Stockings Were Hung.....

I just didn't get it posted on time!!! :)

Inspired by our childhood stockings, years ago, I made Snowmen stockings for my sister and her family. They are really cute!

For Dave and I, I thought I'd start a "Gingerbread" theme for our stockings....starting with the Bride and Groom......

My parents put a fireplace in their living room this year, so Dave thought they needed stockings too......they now have a "grandma" and "grandpa" gingerbread stockings at their house! (I need to get a picture of them hung on their fireplace....these are taken on my sewing table)

There's something about the snowmen stockings I like better....maybe they are just more simple. And, I'm sure the gingerbread people will grow on me! :)

Christmas Week Memories

For the first time ever, I was here to attend my nephews Christmas Concert at school! I was so excited to be there. :) I hadn't been in this school gym since I last performed in it......1990! Even though my nephews could have found many others things to be doing (rather than singing in front of people), I was delighted to be there. It was an excellent show!

This morning, I had a "surprise" waiting my youngest nephew and his best little buddy. They had to go over the my mom's house, where I met them with a gingerbread house kit. The reason for this is that Caden is only 7 years old, but because he is quite a bit younger than his brothers, we all often forget to keep things young enough for him. Christmas is still magical in his young eyes! He was delighted to use the icing and candies and put it all together. And I had fun experiencing it through the eyes of my camera. :)

Seven year old perfection! :)

..............................................................

I continue to work on stockings this week (though, obviously, not with too much gusto!) It need not take this long to do what I'm doing! Hopefully they will be ready tomorrow......to hang by the "chimney" with care....and I'll post pictures too!

Baking

My husband loves to bake......I just don't let him do it very often! I think we may have found a new "Christmas Morning Tradition"! :) These are so yummy! Orange Scones......
